Needed Data Recovery Hardware for Home Users
Data recovery hardware is commonly used by professional data recovery services. Hardware for recovering lost data from a damaged hard drive is complicated to use. It is also very expensive. That is why physical tools for rescuing data are only used on recovery facilities and labs.
For most home users, the cost of recovery hardware is prohibitive. That is why you will be better off if you stick with recovery software for simple data rescue and for retrieving deleted files. But if you are going to rescue data from a trashed or partially damaged hard drive, certain hardware is still needed.
Required Hardware for Data Recovery
To recover data from a damaged drive, you will need to install it as a secondary storage drive to a spare computer. If you own the spare computer, then there is no need for extra hardware because you can simply connect the damaged drive to the motherboard of your spare machine.
If you do not want to pry open your spare computer, you can use a special data cable and port to convert your damaged hard drive as an external drive. When connected to the spare computer, the damaged hard drive will serve as a storage device. You can now retrieve lost data using the spare computer as the primary machine.
Alternative to Date Recovery Hardware
Of course, the easiest alternative is to use software to recover your data. There are lots of standalone applications that can rescue deleted files, corrupted files and missing folders. However, most applications for data recovery should be installed on your hard drive. Installing new applications on a problematic drive could expose your lost data to higher risks.
What you can do is to use a data rescue application that can be loaded from an optical disc. This type of software can create a file recovery folder in the disc. So when you insert the disc to your optical drive, the application will allow you to access the crashed drive so you can retrieve all the missing files and folders in it. With the use of a recovery disc, there is no need for you to use data recovery hardware or a spare computer.
